Prevention rather than Cure, interview with Rachel Landon Naturopath and founder of Wilder Botanics

I first met Rachel when she was a model on a photoshoot for Brides magazine where I was the makeup artist and quickly learnt that being a model was not her purpose or passion.

After studying Iridology (studying the iris as a diagnostic tool) for 7 years, Rachel practised iridology and used holistic medicine to treat potential ailments for her clients. I visited Rachel as an Iridologist when my Iridoligists stop practising. I have used Iridoligy since I was 24 years old and introduced my family and friend to this practice of diagnosis and have used herbs and homeopathic medicine since my 20s as preventative medicine.

Rachel has now launced her own range of Herbs, Tictures and Body Oils and I asked a few questions on her journey that lead to this wonderful range called Wilder Botanics

WHAT LEAD YOU TO LAUNCH WILDER BOTANICS?

When I was building my practice I realised my clients had a real desire to use herbs but also a wariness and uncertainty about them so I started to create formulas which were an extension of my practice, supporting the main issues that were being presented to me via the people I was seeing with the hope of inspiring a wider audience to familiarise themselves with healing herbs and not just the herbs in our Wilder formulas but also the seasonal herbs that naturally grow around us, and to become more confident in integrating these into daily life as a preventative primarily.

WHAT DECISION DID YOU MAKE TO COME TO PRODUCE A PRODUCT RANGE?

I didn’t start Wilder with an idea that we would be creating a range rather I was producing what I felt people needed. So the first formulas were our whole herb loose infusions (known as Tea’s) that were easy to use, to see, taste and have a feel of the herb.

The first Tea was our Cleansing blend to support the eliminative organs and a Tea blend for the nervous system. Also a deeply supportive Bath Soak with lavender infused oil and essential oil, relaxing and beneficial for migraine sufferers too and our Calendula Body Oil that is super healing and nourishing to the skin.

From there our formulas just grew with feed back from followers and working in our store on Broadway market.

I HAVE USED YOU IN THE PAST AS AN IRIDOLOGIST DOES HAVING BEEN A NATUROPATH AND IRIDOLOIGIST INFLUENCE YOU IN WHAT PRODUCTS YOU DEVELOP?

Absolutely. My training has enabled me to look to prevention rather than cure, supporting the whole person using a variety of therapies such as herbs, nutrition, flower remedies, homeopathy working with the body’s natural vital energy. I have formulated products that I hope empower and inspire people to actively participate in their own healing journey.

WHO IS IN YOUR TEAM?

Out team comprises of me and my co founder and husband Charlie and our business partner Pierre. We have some incredible ladies in our store too a homeopath, a trainee acupuncturist in her final months and a yoga practitioner.

HAS LAUNCHING A BUSINESS IN YOUR EYES BEEN EASY?

Its not been easy but nothing worthwhile comes easy. It’s a journey that we’re so excited about getting up for everyday and that’s a wonderful thing. We’re meeting incredible people and always learning, happy trying our best to make this work.

We also have a whole new rebrand working with a wonderful trainee horticulturist and graphics guy and we’re so excited to launch this mid May.
